A stick and a tree
I took a class from Friends of the Sierra Nevada Field Campus featuring Tree Portraiture with Laurie Wigham. I went to Donner Summit and picked one of my favorite trees to try this method out after the class.

This time of year the bay area oaks are waking up to spring. Some of the deciduous oaks have catkins dangling from the branches. This oak early in the morning glowed with catkins and lace lichen. The famous winding road
This road runs along the ridge above Stinson Beach. Today was windless with plenty of bikes rolling by and a few motorcycles on way to Mt Tamaplais. It was odd that a photo popped up of a painting I did of the same area in 2013.
Afternoon Journey
I could then finish the painting with the highlights that still exited in the trees. Sometimes they are gone before a painter gets to the end of a painting.
