While painting a view of trees, all these leaves filtered down in a gentle breeze. I picked up a few, to paint. I put them on tiny canvas and started by tracing their outlines. Fast studies of colors of the moment.
I went out just before sunset to catch the light on the shack. Here is an example of the movement of light in one hour. A painter has to decide what to highlight or they are just painting the light moving out of the frame.
Over the years painting this grove I like to experiment with different size canvas with backgrounds that may or not be actually there. This first one is with the pines behind the trees. The weather is warm, no smoke or wind. So I keep coming back.
