Painting in changing light
I went out just before sunset to catch the light on the shack. Here is an example of the movement of light in one hour. A painter has to decide what to highlight or they are just painting the light moving out of the frame.

Over the years painting this grove I like to experiment with different size canvas with backgrounds that may or not be actually there. This first one is with the pines behind the trees. The weather is warm, no smoke or wind. So I keep coming back.
The old shack is still standing on Hwy 267 near Brockway Summit. I have painted every year. This time I decided paint the view from what might have been the front of the shack. This building is located in Bodie State Historic Park in Bridgeport California, which is a gold-mine ghost town. The structures are all in a state of arrested decay, or have been left as is. The beginning of summer in Truckee and the Brockway Summit shack is still standing. Surrounded by beautiful Sierra Onions and spreads of Yampahs the aspens area now bright green.
Three new critters to cheer us up at High Camp Home. These are all painted from photos of mine. Many of the them return each year after making it from hibernation over the winter and come when I call them. They are on wood panels. The sides are painted a cream white.
This barn is in Genesee Valley in Plumas County. I painted this with a background of movement in warm colors because it reminded me of the Dixie Fire that was burned more than 963,000 acres in three months of 2021. I believe the barn is still standing. Sierra Barn 24×30 inch High Camp Home Sold
Every morning a Red Shoulder hawk would perch on these coastal oaks checking out its territory. I was fortunate to actually line up the tree trunks in my painting with the view when I stood back to take the photo.
