Chip and Dale

Chip is a Golden Mantle Squirrel that I feed peanuts. It has been around for two years. I enjoy its company and love sketching it. There is a constant battle with the groundies, (California Ground Squirrels) and Chip as to how the peanuts are divided up. The groundies also enjoy cuttings from vegetables which aren’t to Chips tasting. I call Chip over after scattering peanuts to the groundies, for his own supply. I painted both kinds of squirrels on 8x10in. panels and brought them to High Camp Home this week. Happy to say I met the customer who walked in and bought Chip while I was there, and then decided to purchase Dale too!

This California ground squirrel likes to perch on a old branch that overlooks a ridge. It is a good lookout for watching for hawks and other predictors. If a hawk is spotted the squirrel will sound an squeaky alarm, to all in the vicinity to go under cover.
