Ceanothus Moth

Summer Solstice 30×48 in.
On Summer Solstice I found this moth drying its wings. It stayed all day and disappeared that night. This moth is a local native to California and our largest with a wing span of up to five inches. The moth’s goal is to  find a member of the opposite sex and hopefully copulate. Females emit a chemical scent (pheromone) that attracts a male suitor. Adult moths have atrophied mouthparts and do not feed. This painting with  the fluttering lines surrounding the moth, symbolize the wing movement although it was stationary.
