Russell Valley Sheep Camp

This 100 year old historic camp is no longer used by remaining summer herders. It has a few old buildings and a working bread baking oven. While painting the cookhouse, a herd of sheep passed thru in the valley background. It is rare to see them at all and amazing that a herd passed thru just as I was painting. This building has decaying paper attached to the interior walls with images of California Missions, as well as car advertisements. In many of the aspen groves of the Sierra, herders would leave their names, dates and interesting drawings.
